The 2nd GM of Marian Library.

The librarians of SMK St. Michael Ipoh had a 2nd General Meeting on the 1st of October, 2010.

The meeting started at 12.30 p.m. at the Hall Area of the Marian Library. The meeting started with the Book Management Committee Heads, Oh Hai Seng and Ng Keen Ho's reports. They reported that they had managed to process over 150 books in September. My fellow librarians had to pocket, wrap and label the books when they stayed back each week for duty, especially the Book Management Committee Heads, who worked hard to process old books in the library as well. However, there were some mistakes in the librarians' shelving and book pocketing processes. Librarians, we need to make sure that pocketing and shelving is done correctly!

Next, the IT Committee Heads, Yee Wai and Gajendran have created a blog in September. Well, as you know, it's actually this website you're on now:
http://smimarianlibrary.blogspot.com/
They are maintaining this blog and updating it with current news on Marian Library. They also updated the Antivirus programmes in all the computers in the library. Therefore, both librarians and students are required to scan their pen drives before inserting it into the library netbooks!

The Publicity and Service Committee Heads, Shing Yee and Yik Sheng have rearranged the school’s old trophies, plaques, typewriters and old librarians’ photo albums at the new Treasure Corner. They also requested Exco and Staco to submit their photos for the Exco Board as soon as possible. They have done a good job in decorating the library's Exco Board. Next, the Magazine Committee received a total of 65 copies of newspapers and 15 copies of magazines in September. During the school holidays' clean up session, the magazine corner was cleaned and tidied up and the magazines were arranged according to the title and year. Thanks to Yoke Mei and Tuck Yew, we now have a neater-looking magazine corner!

The Nilam Committee has been keying in the number of books read by students from Form 1 to Form 5 into the computer for the month of January to August. The total amount of books read by the students from Form 1 to Form 5 have been recorded and announced by the Nilam teacher, Cik Siti Noraisyah. Good job Jin Hwen and Poh Yee!

Then, Jia Shyan and Hui Ling, Honorary Treasurers of Marian Library, calculated the balance funds for the monthly accounts. Jia Shyan announced the balance fund at the end of the month of September. After the Committee Heads and Treasurer's reports, the Library Excos, Toon Kah Chuen, Toon Chi Hong, Loh Yoong Keat, and Ng Yee Mei (me lar!) made some announcements. These are the reminders given during the meeting:

  • Librarians must remember the Exco’s names.
  • Students can no longer borrow fiction books as it is nearing the end of the year.
  • Librarians are reminded that they can only come out for early recess on their duty day, or actions will be taken.
  • They must be in the library for duty on duty day once students go out for recess.
  • Librarians must wear their blazers every morning or they will be fined RM1.00. If they refuse to pay, they will be given 3 demerit points.
  • Librarians must go straight to the library after school on duty day, or they will be given demerit points.
  • If librarians want to replace their duty day, they should do it as soon as possible. They also need to inform the Counter Master if they are replacing their duty on that particular day.
  • Counter Masters must not allow students to take books out of the library without going through the proper book-borrowing procedure.
  • Librarians should wrap the books neatly. They also need to lend and return the books to student properly. Books should be checked before they are lent to students.

Finally, the last announcement was that all librarian recruits passed their librarian tests and are now officially librarians of the Marian Library. Congratulations to the new librarians and let us work together and manage the library well!

That's all for the 2nd General Meeting in Marian Library. We should strive to make the library a better place for both students and teachers alike!
